An individual who laced sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the defendant went on to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the police once more.
She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
